  • Marfrig’s production chain to be free of deforestation within ten years

    Marfrig, one of the global leaders in the beef market and the world's largest hamburger producer, today launched the Marfrig Verde+ Plan, which aims to ensure that 100% of the company's production chain is sustainable and deforestation-free within ten years. The plan was presented to investors, customers, ranchers and environmentalists in Brazil and abroad during an online event on 23 July 2020, which brought together the company’s leading executives, representatives of the financial market and civil society. The plan was development in partnership with IDH – the Sustainable Trade Initiative. Over the next ten years, Marfrig will invest 500 million reais (approx. 82.5 million Euro) in sustainability actions.

    The demand for honey produced by Padang Tikar village forest in Kubu Raya district, West Kalimantan (Indonesia) has increased by 500% during the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents of populous West Java and East Java have increased their consumption of honey, vitamin C and D3 as they believe this will boost their immune system. The honey is produced by Indonesian villagers who took up honey farming in 2018 as part of a community-based forest management initiative.
